At Wabash National, safety is our #1 value and priority. We are committed to providing high-quality products while maintaining a safe environment for our associates, customers and communities.
Wabash National maintains stringent product design and testing standards to ensure our products meet or exceed domestic and international regulations. By leveraging our advanced Research and Development Test Center, we continually strive to enhance product performance and develop new products that help to ensure the safety of the people that operate our equipment and the motoring public.
Throughout our history, we have introduced numerous innovations designed to advance equipment performance and safety. For example, Wabash National was among the first U.S. trailer manufacturers to build and test to the more stringent Canadian rear impact guard standards introduced in 2007. Since then, we’ve continued to search for ways to enhance RIG performance. Today, we’re pleased to offer our customers a new rear impact guard (RIG-16 Rear Underride Guard System) engineered to better absorb and deflect energy in multiple rear impact scenarios.
In addition, Wabash National was the first trailer manufacturer to design its own stop light system to enhance collision avoidance. Our ID/Aux Stop Light System provides motorists with better visibility to trailer braking.
As North America's leading producer of semi-trailers and liquid transportation systems, Wabash National actively supports and promotes the importance of safety on our highways. Many of our associates hold leadership roles in industry associations that work to improve highway safety through improvements in transportation equipment and maintenance, proper equipment operation and public safety awareness. Some of these groups include:
- For over 25 years, Wabash National has been a member of the American Trucking Associations. A critical part of this organization’s mission is to educate the public on highway safety. This is accomplished through a number of national awareness programs, including Share the Road and America’s Road Team.
- A number of Wabash National engineers and technical professionals serve on American Trucking Associations’ Technology and Maintenance Council (TMC) action committees to develop recommended practices for proper trailer maintenance.
- Our tank trailer experts hold leadership roles in the Cargo Tank Risk Management Committee (CTRMC), a group dedicated to proactively enhancing cargo tank safety. A primary goal of this group is to reduce falls at the wide variety of facilities and situations where workers perform various duties while on top of cargo tanks.
- Our associates also hold leadership roles in the Truck Trailer Manufacturers Association, another key industry association that helps to drive improvements in transportation equipment and components used in the manufacture of these products.
Wabash National’s Environmental, Health and Safety Policy reflects our shared commitment to protect people and the planet. We aggressively safeguard the health and safety of our more than 6,000 associates by operating according to this internal policy, while continually striving to standardize processes and improve operations. Many of our facilities are ISO 14001:2004 and/or ISO 9001:2008 registered.
ISO 14001:2004 is an international standard published by the International Organization for Standardization for an effective environmental management system (EMS). The standard is designed to address the delicate balance between maintaining profitability and reducing environmental impact.
ISO 9001:2008 is an international standard published by the International Organization for Standardization for quality management requirements and continuous improvement of business-to-business interactions.
